This afternoon we have heard some very important and impressive presentations. But they were presentations that were sterile scientific discussion. We must not forget that this scientific inquiry is motivated by the human experience of a devastating disease. It must continue to be motivated by that human experience as long as that motivation does not prejudice the scientific method.

Mr. Chairman and members of the Committee. This statement is submitted on behalf of the National Capital Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Association, also known as NatCapLyme. NatCapLyme, a 501(c)(3) was formed in 2001, serves approximately 1800 members, has Maryland chapters in Montgomery and Howard counties and has members throughout the state. We are an independent association with no affiliation to the National Lyme Disease Association.

I am writing as Executive Director of the National Capital Lyme & Tick-borne Disease Association (“NatCapLyme”) on behalf of the thousands of victims of Lyme disease who are citizens of Virginia. NatCapLyme has over 1800 members and Virginia chapters in Northern Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, Central Virginia and Hampton Roads. Statement By NatCapLyme To The ISDA Guidelines Review Panel On The 2006 IDSA Guidelines

The National Capital Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Association (NatCapLyme) would like to thank the Review Panel for reexamining the 2006 Guidelines1, for committing to Attorney General Blumenthal to consider all points of view, and for giving us this opportunity to represent the experience of a large group of patients and impacted individuals who struggle first-hand against the devastating, life-altering effects of tick-borne disease complexes, including chronic Lyme disease.
