Montgomery County Chapter
In an effort to respond to the growing needs of Lyme patients in Maryland, the National Capital Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Association is establishing a patient/caregiver support group in Montgomery County, MD. NatCapLyme support group meetings are held at Sibley Hospital in Washington D.C. on the first Sunday of the month. Lyme patients and their families now have an additional choice and more flexibility for support in the region. There is also a monthly chapter meeting in Fairfax County, VA. The new Montgomery Maryland chapter will meet the third Monday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm, beginning on Monday, July 20th, 2009 at Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center in Germantown, Maryland. Healthrax is located right off of Exit 16 (toward Damascus) of I-270 in Germantown. The address is 20500 Seneca Meadows Parkway, Germantown, MD 20874. The meetings will be held in the second floor conference room.
The chapter will be led by Dr. Jennifer Todd and Charmaine Berman. Jennifer Todd is a Doctor of Public Health, and has nearly 20 years of experience working in public health at the local, state, and national level. She also has worked for non-profit health agencies as a researcher and health advocate. She is currently the director of a public health science program at a local university. Charmaine Berman, a Montgomery County business owner, who after discovering that she has Lyme Disease, has spent the last two years intensely researching Lyme. She has attended conferences and seminars, including the 2008 International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society's (ILADS) Professional Conference on Lyme Disease in San Francisco. Charmaine has daily interaction with many different people, and as her knowledge of Lyme has increased, she has had the opportunity to become an advocate for many in the Washington, D.C. area, especially Montgomery County.
